The DeKalb County Tax Commissioner’s Office collaborated with Grant Street Group to modernize electronic payments via PaymentExpress, bringing tap-to-pay and a fully integrated system to the Tax Commissioner’s North, Central, and South offices.

Residents can now use modern payment methods, including contactless cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. This initiative enhances the customer experience and addresses the increasing demand for efficient and secure payment options. In the first week after going live with PaymentExpress, over 55 percent of Tax Commissioner customers paid via tap-to-pay.

“Feedback on the new system has been overwhelmingly positive from both our staff and the community,” said Irvin J. Johnson, DeKalb County Tax Commissioner. “Since the transition, we have significantly reduced front-counter issues and customers have welcomed the new payment options. This project stands as a testament to our ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of service we provide to our customers.”

Tax Commissioner staff applauded the speed of the new payment experience, both for customer service representatives and customers. Importantly, staff no longer need to handle credit cards – even if a customer’s card chip is broken, customers can complete the transaction without staff intervention using a key-in process on the PIN Pad device. The real-time integration of PaymentExpress with the state motor vehicle system, DRIVES, reduces data entry errors by eliminating the need for staff to re-enter information between the two systems manually. DeKalb County now uses PaymentExpress as its exclusive payment provider for all motor vehicle payments.
