Texas counties modernize in-person payments with tap-to-pay and simplified counter workflows
Austin County and Randall County, Texas, are now live with Grant Street Group’s PaymentExpress for in-person payments, giving residents a more modern over-the-counter payment experience while helping county staff process transactions more efficiently.
The implementations support in-person payments across county services, including motor vehicle and property tax payments, with PaymentExpress supporting the workflow from the customer-facing terminal through county operations.
More payment options with fewer manual steps
With these launches, residents can now tap their card or use a digital wallet, reducing the need for clerks to handle or swipe cards on a customer’s behalf. Customers can complete the payment directly on the PIN pad, creating a more familiar experience and helping staff move through lines more efficiently.
PaymentExpress also simplifies a common Texas counter workflow: switching between the county computer and the state’s RTS computer to process a payment. Its KVM-enabled setup lets clerks remain in the RTS workflow while residents complete payment on the customer-facing terminal, reducing screen switching and re-keying.
Early adoption shows residents are using the new counter experience. Since go-live, tap-to-pay has accounted for 67.40% of in-person payments in Austin County and 67.10% in Randall County. Previously, contactless options at the counter were limited and were not supported through the same consistent, customer-facing workflow. With PaymentExpress and the new setup, residents can complete payment themselves on the customer-facing terminal, giving them more flexibility while reducing the need for clerks to handle payment cards.
A straightforward onboarding process
The launches reflect Grant Street Group’s implementation approach, which includes combining modern payment technology with hands-on support, practical training, and workflows designed around how county staff work every day.

Looking ahead in Texas
Randall County is also preparing to enhance its online property tax payment experience for the upcoming tax season. Scheduled payments and digital wallets will give payers more flexibility, while bank account validation will help reduce payment errors and returned e-check payments.
Grant Street Group is also working with additional Texas tax offices to implement PaymentExpress. Each rollout is designed around the realities of Texas tax operations, including peak-season volumes, integrations with Texas RTS and county systems, and reliable reporting and reconciliation
